Play Ice Hockey in Western Australia

You might not expect to find ice hockey thriving in sunny Western Australia, but Perth is home to a passionate and growing hockey community with opportunities for players of all ages and skill levels. Whether you're looking to try the sport for the first time, develop your skills, join a competitive team, volunteer, officiate or represent Western Australia at a national championship, there is a place for you in our game. Perth is home to two ice rinks in Malaga and Cockburn, both of which offer learn-to-play programs and opportunities to get involved in the sport. Through our affiliated clubs, leagues, development programs, and representative teams, players can progress from beginner participation through to elite competition.

Getting Started

Build your skating confidence

Both Perth ice rinks offer public skating and skating lessons. While you don't have to be a strong skater before starting your hockey journey, building basic skating skills and confidence will help make the transition to hockey easier and more enjoyable.

Try ice hockey

Learn-to-play programmes are a great way to build hockey skills and meet others starting out. Cockburn Ice Arena offers its Ice Hockey Academy for children and adults. Perth Ice Arena also offers learn-to-play opportunities. Contact the rink or visit its website for current sessions, entry requirements, equipment and registration information.

Connect with a club

Want to join a team and play in a competition? Connect with your local ice hockey club. They will be able to guide you through the registration process and place you in a suitable team.

Get involved beyond playing

There are other ways to get involved in ice hockey in WA. Clubs welcome enquiries from people interested in volunteering on or off the ice. You can also explore a pathway into officiating. If you are interested in getting involved please contact your local club or for more information about officiating, please contact RIC@ihwa.org.au.
